38 weeks - 10 days til my due date

38 weeks...holy cow...can't believe I'm so close yet have no idea at all when Lincoln will make his debut into this world. Its very weird not being able to make any concrete plans because he may just decide to show up. But I'm staying active socially and did a good deep cleaning in the kitchen yesterday. The boys I live with are real half-assers (is that a word?).
Its a good thing that I have this new house project to focus on otherwise I'd be sitting around comtemplating every feeling in my body as if it were a sign of labor. Oh...I can't wait to hold the little guy. In addition, maternity clothes don't even cover the belly anymore. Nothing does - argh!
Keep checking to see updates about my progess.

random thoughts and pictures

The love between Archie and Chubby is astounding and inspiring.

Our friends from our birth class, Josh and Shannon, and their 2 1/2 week old baby, Reed. He puked all over me but it was ok because he had a belly ache and felt much better after that! It was hard holding him against my enormous watermelon of a belly. I couldn't cuddle very easily. Soon enough I'll get to cuddle with my own nugget of joy!

These are the shoes that I picked out and Cory bought me for my birthday! I love them. They have hula girls all over them and say "aloha" as well as sport my favorite fruit...a pineapple. Plus, they are soooooo comfortable. Much needed at this point since I've gained 35 lbs and my feet are killing me.

A small step towards saving the world...

I read this blurb in my Parenting magazine.

"Change a lightbulb: If every household replaced its five most frequently used lights with Energy Star bulbs, it would have the same effect on reducing greenhouse gases as if we took 8 million cars off the road. Bonus: You'd save about $60 a year."

Sounds great to me! So simple yet such a huge impact.

My brother tried to complain about it by saying "I don't like those flourescent bulbs...I don't know if I could handle it," and I rebuttled, "you'd rather have 8 million cars on the road polluting than suck it up and use flourescent lighting?" He had no reply.

Cook St house

Unfortunately, I have no pictures to post right now because Josh has kidnapped the camera but here's an update.

We are moving along with the demo on the house quite nicely. My highly optimistic husband thinks that all the demo will be done tomorrow but I'm not quite sure of that. Nonetheless, things are going well. We have all sorts of sub-contractors coming out and bidding on projects. Can't wait to get started on construction and make this place nice!

This is not ok!

Check this out...the Halupaui Indians on the Northern Rim of the Grand Canyon have created this skywalk. This is absolutely frightening. The floor AND the walls of the walk are made of glass. The indians are using it as a money making venture. More power to them but I'm never steppin' foot on that thing. It's apparently 2 hours south of Vegas. I think I'll just send them my admission cost and spare myself the stress.

Absolutely hilarious!

This is a blurb I found on the 9news website. They are featuring a dog adopt-a-thon. Here are two of the choices:

"Cocker Spaniels: Roofus and Dolly are 3 years old. They came together from a shelter in Grand Junction. Dolly is blind and Roofus is her seeing-eye dog. They could be adopted separately, but would like to be together"

A dog with a seeing-eye dog. Who'da thought? So cute!!!!

37 weeks

Lincoln is officially full-term today. If I went into labor he would be born here, at home, instead of the hospital had it been in previous weeks. Don't get all excited that he's coming just yet because I really have 3 more weeks until his due date and the average first pregnancy is overdue by a week and a half. I really hope this is not the case. I had a pre-natal visit on Wed. and I'm still at the same point I was 2 weeks ago. I don't think much more movement is going to happen until I go into labor. However, I do have a low iron count in my blood and I am working hard to get that back up. Having a heck of a time, though. Sorry, no updated pics.

It's Official

We officially own another home! We closed on the Cook St house in Denver this afternoon. Josh is going to start demo tomorrow. If anyone is interested in doing demo or renovations with us...we'd love to have your help! Yay, we are very excited!

Apparently, the house is being used as part of a rental scam. Some guy in Puerto Rico has placed an ad in some paper and people are coming by the house with the lockbox code and wanting to rent the house. So then they send $700 to Puerto Rico for a deposit. It's happened at least 4 or 5 times in the past few weeks. People are so gullable. So next time you want to rent a place...make sure you meet the landlord and give them a check. DON'T WIRE MONEY TO A PLACE OUT OF THE COUNTRY. It's just dumb! We can't believe people fell for it.

February 12th is a great day for a Birthday!

Yesterday was my 26th birthday. It was a fantastic day! Josh made me enchiladas for lunch and they were awesome! Then I took a nap! In the afternoon, Jessica took me to Hot Pots in Downtown Littleton. It's a paint your own pottery place. I loved it. Oddly enough, I didn't eat cake...in fact, I didn't even want or think about cake. Dinner was the special treat of the day.

Namaste

For my birthday, a bunch of my friends and I met at Namaste. It's an Indian restaurant that we frequent! Yum! Here are some great photos of the splendid evening!

Enjoying appetizers, mmmm...veggie pakora!

the dorky couple!

cory and jessica

"mmmmm....chai is delightfully refreshing"

dawn and another dorky friend, steph (she's single, folks!)

Thanks for coming friends. Also, thanks to everyone that sent me birthday wishes via email, myspace, or good'ol phone. I had a great day!

What do you all think?

What do you all think about this exterior color scheme? I think it brings out the architectural elements of the craftsman style. The underside of the porch would not be that visible. It would obviously be in a shadow. Let me know.

1st official flip flop day of 2007

Today was the most magnificent day of 2007 so far in Denver. Although there have been many days of sunshine (despite the ridiculous snow) today was by far the best. I officially broke out the flip flops. Conveniently, I had had a pedicure on Friday at the St. Julien spa in Boulder thanks to my bfs Anna and Alyza.

All of us enjoyed some sunshine today:

Josh ate,

Chubby slept,

& Cory shoveled snow left over from the end of December

Don'tcha love Colorado!

36 weeks - 4 to go!

As of Friday, Feb. 9th I have 4 weeks of pregnancy left...that is, of course, if he decides to come on his due date of March 9th. I didn't have a pre-natal visit this past week because my mid-wife thought she might be getting strep throat. So she cancelled. So no progression updates, yet. Next visit is Valentine's day...how romantic! I can say that he is very low because of all the odd pressure I feel in my lower abdominal areas. He is really squished in there and tries to move around but really he's just stuck, haha! I'm so excited to meet him and, of course, so is Josh. Enjoy my latest candids!
35 weeks - post-workout (= 7-15 min. of elliptical) with a toaster strudel for a snack conveniently placed on my large belly.

36 weeks - off to church

Yay!

inspection & sewer scope

Yesterday, we had an inspection and sewer scope for the new house. There are just normal issues related to a 98 year old home. Patch roofing, change electric boxes, leaky pipes, new H2O heater and furnace...but like I said, it's to be expected.

Last evening was the sewer scope. We were not there for it but it went well. They stick a snake with a camera on the end and make sure that everything's clear to the sewer from the house to make sure we won't get any backups in the house. nasty! Speaking of nasty. Someone had apparently broken into the house in the past week and slept there. They also pooed in one of the toilets. So when the sewer scope guy came to do his job he had to remove the toilet that had been pooed in in order to get to the sewer. In doing so he became nauseated and threw up in the process! hahahahhaha! Poor guy, how embarrassing!

So now the appraiser is going out today to make sure we are paying the right amount for the loan or rather they are loaning us the right amount of money and then we wait to close! Hopefully next week if we're lucky.

"We got the house!" Update

So last week when I said that we got the house...well, that was just one big miscommunication. The listing agent misspoke when telling our agent about our offer and so we all had the wrong info. They hadn't accepted the offer, they had accepted the offer for REVIEW...whatever that means!? So we waited and then heard that other offers had been put in for higher than ours, argh. We raised our offer to $325k. On Wed. of last week we got a verbal acceptance of our offer and found out that we wouldn't hear back until Monday (yesterday) if they officially accepted it. Well, Monday came and Josh had to send in the official offer of $325k and still no word. This morning...no word. Then, finally, at 4pm today Josh got word that they officially accepted the offer! So Yayayayayayayay! Tomorrow is the inspection so pray that all goes well and there are no major issues with the house.

Oh and Josh found out (through google) that the house used to be some sort of old peoples home.

Baby Shower

On Saturday, Feb. 3rd I had a baby shower. Tiffani Porter hosted it for me at my house. My aunts bought all the wonderful catered food from Wild Oats. Their artichoke dip was AWESOME! We played several games and I opened lots of cute gifts! Thank you to all who gave me gifts! Here are some pics from the shower and below those are snapshots of 2 of the games. Enjoy!

Tiffani - the host!

Millie

Archie enjoying the blanket made by my Aunt Elaine, another blanket from my Aunt Jane and the crib from my mom's side. Looks like Lincoln will have to compete for his bed!

Cotton Ball game

This game involved using a spoon to lift cotton balls into another bowl blindfolded. It was very funny! Karen was caught cheating!

Steph

Diaper game

Here are some pics of the hilarious diaper poo game we played. We melted candy bars in the diapers. My guests had to guess what kind of candy bars were in the diapers by smelling them. It was really entertaining to watch, especially since I didn't have to participate!

Stephanie and Jessica tied with only 2 incorrect identifications. So we had each pick a number and Stephanie won the tie breaker!
